Set Sail for “I Do”: Weddings at Ships of the Sea

Tucked away in the heart of historic Savannah, Ships of the Sea is a wedding venue that somehow feels quintessentially Savannah while still giving every couple the opportunity to make it completely their own.
With lush gardens, historic architecture, brick pathways and spaces that transform from romantic ceremonies to unforgettable receptions, there’s so much to love about this venue. We’ve had the chance to bring so many different wedding visions to life here, and one of our favorite things about Ships of the Sea is seeing just how different every celebration can look.
From colorful garden florals to timeless greenery and moodier, unexpected details, let’s take a look at some of the ways our Ivory & Beau couples have made Ships of the Sea their own.

A Ceremony Surrounded by Savannah Greenery
One of the most recognizable parts of a Ships of the Sea wedding is the garden ceremony space. Surrounded by mature trees and greenery with the historic Scarbrough House creating a beautiful backdrop, the space already has so much natural character before the first flower is placed.
That gives us the opportunity to design florals that complement the garden rather than compete with it. We’ve filled the brick aisle with colorful, garden-inspired arrangements, framed ceremonies with statement florals and greenery, and created designs ranging from soft and whimsical to sleek and timeless.

It’s All in the Details
A wedding at a museum also gives couples plenty of opportunities to get creative. Some of our favorite Ships of the Sea celebrations have embraced unexpected details, dramatic textures, statement décor, and playful touches that make the day feel completely personal.
Whether it’s an unforgettable cake display, museum-inspired accents, bold florals, or something completely unexpected, these little details are what turn a beautiful wedding into a celebration that truly feels like you.
Why We Love Ships of the Sea Weddings
After designing so many celebrations at Ships of the Sea, we still love seeing how differently each couple makes the venue their own.
You can embrace the gardens with colorful, overflowing flowers, keep things timeless with greenery and white blooms, bring in warm and earthy tones, or go bold with your reception design. That’s what makes this venue so special: it already feels distinctly Savannah, while still leaving plenty of room for your wedding to feel distinctly you.
A Reception That Transforms With You
As dinner turns into dancing, Ships of the Sea takes on an entirely new personality. The covered reception space gives couples a blank canvas to create a celebration that feels completely their own. From greenery-filled installations and candlelit tables to lounge areas, statement lighting, and bold dance floors, there are so many ways to transform the space.
And once the sun goes down, the atmosphere changes all over again. String lights, dramatic up lighting, and a packed dance floor can turn an elegant garden reception into an unforgettable party. We love that couples can create a reception that feels beautiful and polished during dinner—and completely let loose in the very same space later in the night.
