A Refined Take on 4th of July Wedding Inspiration

My parents (Nicole - owner of Ivory & Beau here), Art & Sandy, were married on the Fourth of July in 1987 at their cabin in Indiana. This summer I will be road tripping to find the cabin. The address no longer is available on GPS but my dad hand-drew a map so we are going old school and going on a little adventure to try to track down the log cabin. Come back in a few weeks to see if I found it!!

And in the meantime, sharing a few pictures from recent weddings (none of which were technically 4th of July themed) but if you put them all together you sure could have a pretty rad 4th of July themed wedding if you ask me…!!

There’s something about a coastal summer wedding that naturally feels inspired by the 4th of July — not in a themed way, but in the atmosphere it creates. While gathering inspiration from several different wedding galleries, the details that stood out most were the ones that captured the feeling of an American summer: sailboats in the marina, outdoor cocktail hours, lawn games at sunset, and sparkler exits beneath the night sky. The overall inspiration became less about patriotic décor and more about recreating the nostalgia and energy of summer celebrations by the water.

There's a reason waterfront weddings never go out of style… and truly would it get any better than a wedding at a marina on the 4th of July!? Watching fireworks from a boat… No big deal.

The scenery does so much of the work for you. Instead of elaborate décor, you're surrounded by sparkling water, sailboats, golden sunsets, and endless coastal views. Whether you're exchanging vows on a dock, beneath a sailcloth tent, or overlooking a harbor, the setting creates an atmosphere that's elegant without trying too hard.

For couples planning a lowcountry wedding, a marina venue offers that relaxed Southern coastal charm while still feeling incredibly luxurious. Also, if you ARE planning a wedding at a marina or on an island perhaps… think Buck Island or Daufuskie… our team is up to speed on all the logistics of pulling off a beautiful wedding and we love any opportunity to take a ferry with hundreds of flowers to an island adventure!!

LAWN GAMES & GUEST EXPERIENCE

One of the best parts of a Fourth of July wedding is that it's the perfect excuse to turn your celebration into an unforgettable summer party. We love the idea of creating spaces where guests can relax, mingle, and have fun long after cocktail hour ends. Set out classic lawn games like cornhole, giant Jenga, croquet, bocce ball, or ring toss to encourage a little friendly competition between family and friends. Add cozy lounge seating, lawn umbrellas, refreshing drink stations, and maybe even a late-night ice cream or popsicle cart to keep everyone cool. A Fourth of July wedding should feel joyful, playful, and full of laughter—a celebration where guests aren't just attending your wedding, but making memories all weekend long. It's these thoughtful, interactive touches that create the kind of atmosphere people will be talking about long after the fireworks have faded.

When it comes to Fourth of July wedding flowers, timeless elegance doesn't have to mean incorporating red, white, and blue all at once. In fact, we think one of the most beautiful approaches is to let the holiday simply inspire your color palette rather than define it. A romantic combination of crisp whites and soft blues creates an effortlessly coastal, sophisticated look that feels just as festive while remaining completely timeless. Imagine lush white garden roses, fluffy hydrangeas, delicate lisianthus, blue delphinium, tweedia, and airy blooms dancing in the summer breeze. The result is fresh, elegant, and perfectly at home along the waterfront—capturing the spirit of the holiday without feeling overly themed. Years from now, your wedding photos will still feel classic, refined, and every bit as beautiful as the day you said "I do."

A 4th of July–inspired wedding doesn’t have to mean themed décor or obvious patriotic details. The most inspiring celebrations are often the ones that simply capture the feeling of summer — relaxed coastal evenings, marina views, outdoor gatherings, sparklers, and the nostalgia that comes with celebrating by the water. Pulling inspiration from several different wedding galleries made it clear that the magic is really found in the atmosphere: timeless settings, intentional details, and creating an experience that feels both elevated and effortlessly fun. Whether through waterfront venues, lawn games at cocktail hour, or a sparkler send-off beneath the night sky, these weddings prove that subtle summer inspiration can create a celebration that feels unforgettable long after the weekend ends.

FIREWORKS & SPARKLERS, A MUST OF COURSE

Last but not least… what is a 4th of July wedding without sparklers or fireworks?!!?! Obviously that is a must always!!!! I love this exit so much that Ben & Emma did after their reception!!!
