Savannah’s Dreamiest Churches for Autumn “I Dos”

There’s just something about Savannah in the fall that feels extra special. The weather finally cools off, the trees turn the prettiest shades of gold, and the city’s old charm seems to come alive in a softer, cozier way. The city’s autumnal beauty makes it easy to see why October and November have become such popular months to host a wedding. Every corner is a shot straight out of a Hallmark film! It’s honestly one of the best times of year to get married here, especially if you’ve been dreaming of that romantic, classic, historic feel.
If you want to capitalize on the historic, autumnal vibes for your Savannah wedding, we couldn’t think of a better place to get married than one of the many churches and cathedrals in town. Two of our favorites for fall weddings are the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist and First Presbyterian Church. Both are absolutely stunning year-round, but in the fall, they hit a whole new level of haunting beauty.
Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist
Located in Lafayette Square, the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist is one of the most iconic Savannah backdrops. Between the soaring ceilings, the stained glass windows, the ornate paintings on every wall and arch, and the gorgeous marble detailing, every part of it feels elegant and timeless. The natural beauty and architecture of the Basilica make it the perfect venue for brides who don’t want to worry about decorating their ceremony space. This church truly needs nothing added to make it a jaw-dropping venue.
It’s also the perfect place to get married if you’re planning a destination wedding in Savannah, GA! There couldn’t be a more famous spot to host your ceremony (besides maybe the Forsythe Park Fountain) than the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. PLUS, you’ll be inviting your guests into a great piece of Savannah history—what could be better than that for your friends and family who are traveling in?
In the fall, the light that shines through the stained glass gives the space a warm, golden glow. It’s the perfect setting for classic bridal looks like lace sleeves, dramatic cathedral trains, blusher veils, or anything that catches the light beautifully (like a TIARA).

First Presbyterian Church
Just a short car ride away from St. John’s is the beautiful Independent Presbyterian Church, located by Daffin Park. Independent Presbyterian, while just as captivating as St. John’s, provides a simpler backdrop in the best way. Completed in 1891 after a fire destroyed it, First Presbyterian is an example of the Greek Revival style. With its white columns, towering steeple, and detailed woodwork, this church provides a beautiful, historic setting for brides and grooms alike to add their personal flair.
Addison & Luke’s wedding is the perfect example of a bride and groom who made this venue their own while keeping the integrity of the church in their floral designs. With so many trees framing the entrance of the church, Addison and Luke opted to incorporate that greenery into their floral arrangements. Now, picture the leaves turning golden in the fall and making burnt oranges, browns, and rich autumnal colors the forefront of this ceremony space!
If you love tradition but want something that still feels personal and romantic, this one’s for you.
Both of these churches have seen countless love stories begin, and we’ve had the joy of helping so many brides find the perfect dress to match the moment or design floral arrangements authentic to their personalities and venues.
Whether you’re drawn to the grand cathedral-style romance of St. John’s or the intimate, timeless charm of First Presbyterian, you can’t go wrong picking either of these locations to say “I do.”.
Because honestly, there’s no better time or place to start your forever.
